Terms and abbreviations of container transportation

Properly filled in documentation contributes to the right in-time cargo delivery. This rule does not have any exclusions. Well-coordinated scheme of international container transportation requires understanding the special terminology for filling in papers. This article provides the main abbreviations that will ease your work.

Labeling containers

  • Dry Cube, DC, GP, DV, Dry Van, (General Purpose container) – a dry cargo module of a definite size. The box is used for shipping cargo that does not require special storage conditions.
  • HQ, HQ (High Cube) — a standard container with an enlarged height of the ceiling.
  • HTC (Heavy Tested Container) — a module with a greater carrying capacity.
  • PW (Pallet wide) — a container for shipping cargo on pallets. Its width is broaden to set cargo in two rows.
  • BU, Bulk, BC (Bulk Container) — a special container for bulk cargo. Its construction is equipped with a top loading and side unloading hatches. There are also swing gated with a safe locking system.
  • FR (Flat Rack) — a platform is meant for over-sized cargo. It has frontal sides and setting-up elements.
  • OT, UT, HT (Open Top, Hard Top) — a series of special modules, each with a removable cover. It is used for moving large-scale cargo and materials. There are models with steel and canvas covers.
  • VT, VC (Ventilated Container) — a transportation block equipped with a ventilation system. It enables a pre-set level of humidity and removes evaporation.
  • TC, Tank (Tank Container) — a special type of containers used for transporting liquid and gas substances. It has a pressure control system and is locked in a steel framed.
  • RE, RS, RT (Refrigerated Container) — a sealed box with a climate control system. It is utilized for transporting perishable goods and materials. There is an integrated charging system for connecting to sea, automobile or railway vehicles.
